A torque converter is what makes an automatic transmission possible. In a manual transmission the clutch disconnects the engine from the transmission thus allowing the vehicle to come to a complete stop without stalling the engine. In an automatic transmission, the torque converter replaces the clutch by allowing the engine to spin somewhat independently of the transmission through a type of fluid coupling.
Bully Dog Technologies’ torque converters use the finest in wet clutch materials in order to perform like a triple disc with our dual surface technology. The Allison transmissions apply more pressure to the torque converter clutches than other transmissions. Since more pressure is applied to the torque converter it is able to hold twice what was previously possible in other transmissions. The stock Allison torque converter has a very thin front cover causing the cover to flex and eventually break. This problem has been solved in the Bully Dog high performance dual surface converter by producing a torque converter with a billet steel cover which prevents the front cover from flexing and eventually breaking. Without the front cover flexing, the torque converter will work more efficiently creating more horsepower and torque. Fuel economy will also be increased with a more efficient torque converter.
Our torque converter can be used on the 2001-2005 6.6L Duramax Diesels. It is billet faced which gives it a much stronger grip then your stock torque converter. We recommend replacing your stock torque converter if you are 130+ hp above stock. Our torque converter also has an upgraded lock-up clutch which will help eliminate slippage and improve efficiency.
There is a $184.00 core charge on all torque converters.
